Third times a charm???? (and BIG news)

So. . . after hearing the heartbeat again today and recognizing that I am starting to look pregnant. . . I figured I would announce it to the world! We are (once again) expecting our fifth child!!!

15 weeks along -- due October 9.

So here's to all the remarks and comments in my future

"Is this your first?? Nope, fifth" (followed by nothing but silence)

"(When seeing me with Adam since all the girls are in school) Are you hoping for a girl??? Not really, since I already have 3 girls but I'll take whatever we get!" (again nothing but silence and maybe a "you're crazy look?)

"Wow, you've got your hands full. (often said when I only have 2 or 3 of the kids with me, but I can't wait to go shopping 8 months pregnant with all 4 kids with me -- It ought to be a reality TV special)"

The good news is that I am not househunting like one of the previous fifth pregnancies. That was really fun -- looking at apartments in Manhattan while pregnant and then having to explain over and over again how this was not our first but our fifth. I swear some of the people had small heart attacks right on the spot.

And for any of you out there who may be experiencing or have experienced multiple second trimester miscarriages-- have your doctors test for blood clotting diseases (thrombophilia's). During my last pregnancy, after there was once again a seemingly perfect baby with no heartbeat, the doctor commented that she wondered if I had a blood clotting disorder. I asked her what the treatment would have been and she replied, "it is often just as simple as taking a baby (low dose) aspirin a day."

Since my diagnosis (of Factor V Leiden Thrombophilia) I have met 3 other women (just here in my ward in my small town) with different blood clotting disorders that all manifest themselves through late miscarriages. My treatment is a little more than just a baby aspirin as I get to self-administer a daily subcutaneous injection of Lovenox right in my stomach. But I have seen each of these other women have successful pregnancies with this treatment so we are ever hopeful that everything will continue smoothly.

Congratulations, that's so exciting!!! I have a friend that had to do those injections last year and had a perfect baby girl last July! You'll be in our prayers!!!

Congrats Jamie! I had no idea about your late miscarriages-- I am so sorry, that must have been such a difficult time. I have heard of the Asprin thing & the shots. I pray that those work for you & that you have a healthy baby! I'm pregnant with my 3rd, not my 5th, but I still get the "you're crazy" silent stares when I tell people that I have 20 month old twins at home. So I totally get that!

Congrats Jamie! I hope it all goes smoothly! I was going to do a similar blog sometime about all the comments I get when I'm out - "You've got your hands full" ranks #1! But I guess you'll have us beat cuz we're done!

My mom and sister are both Factor V Lieden. I've never heard of that manifestation. I'm glad they worked it out and that this little one is looking healthy. Best wishes to you and congratulations!

Again, so happy for you! And, I must say, you are definitely someone who could have 10 kids and still get all of your things done and have a spotless house. I don't know how you do it, but I have always admired you for it. You are amazing! I hope that your treatment works. 3rd time was a charm for us. I'm glad things are going well!

We are so, so glad everything is going well. Jeff is just hoping he/she is born on his birthday. Oh, and that you name the baby after him if it's a boy :-)

By the way, we are still keeping our fingers crossed that we will hear from your friend. A summer in Connecticut sounds wonderful!

Oh, I just read the email from your friend! Maybe a shorter visit this summer - that sounds really great too :-)

Interesting about that clotting disorder. Maybe that could have helped me. I just thought I lost the recipe on how to get through a pregnancy.

Congratulations. Hope all goes well this time. Love Aunt Tobi

That is so exciting! Congrats! (And I totally know someone who has this disorder!) That is very happy for you.
When my mom was in labor with number 7 the doctor thought the chart said 1 and asked her like a child if she knew what braxton hicks were....she laughed. I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun tales like that, you old pro!

Jamie...Jenni alerted me to your blog after I mentioned running into you on Sunday so add me to your list of followers. I laughed at your "You've got your hands full" when you are out and about with just two or three and then the are-you-crazy-looks when you reveal you have more at home as that happens to me ALL the time too. I can't imagine what these people would do if I were to reveal my oldest-of-eight status. Nice to hear someone else look at it with humor. And so glad to hear things are going better for you with this pregnancy and we hope that will continue. Congrats again!
