Day 3 -- Sunday -- Church and Gettysburg

On Sunday, we found a local congregation and went to church in the morning. After lunch we drove to Gettysburg. The weather was hot. Fortunately the brand new visitors center was nice and cool. The whole experience at Gettysburg is pretty amazing. The visitor's center and museum are filled with history that even the kids could understand, but nothing can compare to the experience of driving around the battlefield. There are something like 1600 monuments erected throughout the whole area. We had hoped to get a battlefield guide to come in our car with us and give us a tour of the area. But as we did not make reservations ahead of time we were out of luck. So we settled for buying the audio tour on CD that you put in your car and follow along (it even gives you driving directions). Trent and I really enjoyed it. The kids . . . not as much as us. Apparently that is the big advantage to having a "living" tour guide is that they can tailor the stories to your children.
